4 All-Natural Ways to Dye Your Hair Red

Cranberry Juice

This is one of my personal favorite ways to add red to hair naturally, as in my experience it gave my hair beautiful shine and a lovely fragrance with absolutely no damage to my strands. If you have light-colored hair naturally, you can obtain a rich shade of red by pouring cranberry juice onto your scalp generously and then combing it through your strands. Let the juice set on your head for at least thirty minutes before rinsing. Your hair may turn pink the first time, so repeat this process until you achieve a shade you are satisfied with. The juice will not damage your hair so don't be afraid of applying too much or repeating this process too many times. If your hair is naturally dark, cranberry juice is an excellent way to give your locks a subtle hint of red that will shine in the sunlight. Apply the juice generously to your hair and comb it through. Allow the juice to sit for at least an hour before rinsing it out. For best results and to keep your hair red as long as possible, repeat this process frequently as you will lose some of your coloring every time you wash your hair as this is a temporary way to dye your hair red.

Tomato Sauce

Tomatoes are full of vitamins and antioxidants, making them great for your hair. Letting tomato sauce sit on your hair for a prolonged period of time will give your hair a subtle red hue while improving the texture and quality of your strands. Massage a generous amount of tomato sauce into your hair, making sure that your entire head is evenly coated. Put a shower cap over it and let it sit for at least an hour before rinsing. This method may involve some trial and error to get the results you want. If your hair does not appear stained red after rinsing and drying, repeat the process but leave the sauce on longer before rinsing it out.

Kool-aid

Kurt Cobain, the late singer and guitarist of the infamous grunge band Nirvana was well-known for dying his natural blond hair bright red using Kool-aid. You can easily dye light hair a vibrant red or give dark hair lovely red highlights using sugar-free Kool-aid packets and water. Choose a Kool-aid color slightly darker than the color you want your hair to be. Apply the Kool-aid to your hair in the same manner used to dye hair with cranberry juice, and allow plenty of time for the Kool-aid to sit on your head so your hair is stained properly. Several applications may be needed to achieve the shade you want.

Red Henna

Henna is the best option to use if you want your hair color to last with the least amount of maintenance possible. Henna is an all-natural plant based dye that can last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months when applied to hair. The directions will vary from one brand to another, so when dying your hair red with henna be sure to read the instructions thoroughly before you begin. Best of all, henna is a natural strengthener, so it will actually leave your locks stronger than they were before you dyed them. I absolutely love henna hair dye, as it can be left on hair overnight, is easy to apply and is long lasting without being permanent or harmful.
