HOW TO MAKE SCENTED BODY LOTION

Create luxurious scented body lotion with natural ingredients. There's no need to spend a lot of money for fancy body lotions. By making your own lotion, not only do you get to use your favorite fragrance, or even blend of fragrances, but you can also avoid potential allergic reactions like skin irritation caused by artificial ingredients. Keep your skin smooth, silky and aromatic with lotion you created yourself -- or make personalized gifts by scenting a lotion with the recipient's favorite fragrance.

Step 1

Measure 3/4 cup pure oil appropriate for your skin type. Choose grapeseed oil for oily skin, sweet almond oil for

Step 2

Pour the oil and 2 tablespoons shaved beeswax into a heat-resistant glass cup, or the top saucepan of a double boiler. Set the cup into a saucepan filled with enough water to reach halfway up the cup. If using a double boiler, fill the bottom pan with enough water to just reach below the top pan.

Step 3

Heat over a low flame until the beeswax melts. Remove from heat immediately, and let cool for two minutes.

Step 4

Pour 1 cup of rose water into a blender, if you are making lotion for dry or normal skin; alternatively, use 1 cup of green tea for oily skin. Turn the blender on high.

Step 5

Add the beeswax mixture to the blender, pouring it very slowly through the flap in the blender lid. Continue to blend as the solution thickens.

Step 6

Drip 30 to 40 drops of essential oil into the running blender. Rose, vanilla, jasmine, lavender and orange are popular essential oils. Combine different scents if you like, but don't go beyond 40 drops total. Some combinations that work well include citrus with a floral scent, herbal and citrus blends or florals mixed with spicy scents like cedar or patchouli.

Step 7

Scrape your scented lotion into a clean container with a tight-fitting lid. Store the lotion in the refrigerator for the longest shelf life.
