The Very Best (and Worst) Beauty Advice for Teen Girls

Teen girls receive a lot of tough messages when it comes to beauty. And it causes them to doubt themselves and their appearance. Let’s look at the worst advice they get and turn it around with 3 important messages.

The Worst Beauty Advice for Teen Girls

The media and fashion world have sexualized beauty to make teenage girls think that looking sexy is the way to express feminine beauty.
Girls feel pressured to show a lot of skin.
Many do—not because it feels the most comfortable or the most empowering to them, but because they feel that is what is expected of them, or what makes them valuable.

The Best Beauty Advice for Teen Girls

1. I want to tell every teen girl in the world: You are valuable just for being you!

Young women who show an excessive amount of skin often feel they need to prove their beauty or their value with their body. And they don’t.
If you’re the mother of a teen daughter, don’t fight with her about skimpy clothes. Focus instead on making sure she feels inherently valuable just for being her.

2. Your greatest beauty is in your face.

Our greatest beauty is actually expressed in our smile and our eyes.
Teen girls need to know that their smile radiates what is in your heart and their eyes are the window to the light and beauty within them. If they feel good about themselves, that is the beauty that will shine through.

3. Every teen girl would be well-served to learn her Type of beauty.

When a teen girl understands the real source of her beauty, it shows in every aspect of her being.
She stops feeding into the expectations she feels from the media and culture around her and she feels permission to live true to her beautiful nature.
When a teen girl knows and understands her true nature, people notice her like never before—not for her skimpy clothes, but for her real beauty that she expresses inside and out.
If you know a teenage girl, please share these three important messages with her.
If you are a teen girl, remember: You are beautiful!
